Although there are a wide variety of BBQ sauces available, I decided that it was time for me to make my own, or maybe I wanted to make some BBQ tofu sticks and didn't have any BBQ sauce on hand - who knows? :P Making BBQ sauce is super easy, and you probably have most, if not all of the materials you'd need. I opted to go with a tomato based sauce, using ketchup since that is already a bit sweet, vinegar for a bit of tanginess, and chili powder for some smoky heat. Next time, I might try replacing the ketchup with some tomato paste. One really nice thing abut this BBQ sauce is that you can so easily modify it to suit your own preferences. I went with something simple this time, but you could make it as complex as you'd like - this is a totally flexible recipe!

BBQ Sauce
by CJ HuangMaterials:
Mass | Weight | Volume | Number | Material | Notes |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
1 | onion, grated | I actually pulsed it a few times in a food processor. Grating resulted in a bit too many tears for my liking! | |||
2 cloves | garlic, minced | ||||
1 cup | ketchup | ||||
1 tablespoon | dijon mustard | ||||
2 tablespoons | brown sugar | ||||
4 tablespoons | Worcestershire sauce | ||||
2 tablespoons | vinegar | I used blueberry pomegranate red wine vinegar, but you could just just about anything acidic for the tanginess. | |||
1 tablespoon | chili powder | ||||
1 teaspoon | paprika |
