Crockpot Rotisserie Chicken

I’m excited to introduce Kelly from Semi Homemade Mom! I’m definitely a fan of efficiency, and she shares quite a few shortcuts to get your meal on the table faster or more efficiently. :) A slow cooker is one really good way to decrease the amount of work needed to get a totally tasty meal, so I hope you’ll all give Kelly a warm welcome as she shares her Crockpot Rotisserie Chicken!

Hello Morsels Of Life readers! My name is Kelly, also known as the Semi Homemade Mom. One of my prized possessions is my Crockpot. Seriously, I’m not sure what I did without that thing! I use it at least once a week and I LOVE trying new things in the Crockpot. Did you know you can cook a “rotisserie” chicken in your slow cooker?? SO easy and SO good, I’m telling you! No need to dirty lots of pans either, just plop the chicken in there with the rub and you’re good to go!

A complete rotisserie chicken – seasoned and cooked in the crockpot.

Prep time: 10 minutes
Cook time: 6 hours
Total time: 6 hours, 10 minutes
Yield: 6 servings

  • 4 pound whole chicken
  • 2 tablespoons paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon dried, minced onion
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper, fresh ground
  1. Spray inside of the crockpot, in goes chicken!
  2. In separate bowl, mix together the rest of the ingredients to form a paste. Add a little water if needed.
  3. Rub paprika mixture all over chicken.
  4. Cover and cook on low 6 hours or on high 3 hours. Mine was actually done a lot sooner than that because I had one of those nifty pop up thingys, see:

  1. Great idea! I love rotisserie chicken but don’t have a rotisserie. Also, knowing me I wouldn’t want to fiddle with it anyway. :) Thanks!

  2. What a great idea!!! Does it get rubbery at all? Or is it tender like if you get a rotisserie chicken at the store?

  3. This is a fantastic Idea, I work 2 jobs and no time to cook. I usually to my turkey legs this way but never thought about a whole chicken. SET IT AND FORGET IT.

  4. Do you put the chicken in thawed or frozen?

    • Thanks for your question Rachael! I usually use a thawed chicken. However, I have heard others start off frozen. So either way should work! :) You’ll want to check to check for doneness (especially in the breast) if you start frozen, and it will take a bit longer. Hope this info helps, and let me know if you have any other questions. :)

  5. This looks delicious… great idea because I never get home in time to slow roast a bird, and my husband loves this for a meal. Thanks for sharing!

  6. I can’t wait to try this.

  7. Thanks for posting this, I know I tried it a while back and loved it, but I can’t seem to find cooking directions, did you put it in high or low for 6 hours?

    Thank you!

    • My slow cooker actually doesn’t have a “high” or a “low” setting, so I don’t know which one is “correct.” However, I would think either would be fine, with low being a bit more tender and high being a bit faster. Hope that helps! :)
